Measures To Help Prevent Acid Reflux Disease

The first rule is about the amount of meals you eat. You should be eating small, frequent meals instead of three a day. Minor amounts of food that make your stomach work less which results in decreased acid secretion for digestion.

Another important trick: Include acid reflux foods high in complex carbohydrates in each meal. These foods, like rice, bread and pasta are able to limit the excess stomach acid.

Avoid meals high in fat, which are more difficult to digest.

Avoid or limit alcohol.

Maintain an upright position during meals and avoid lying down for at least 45 minutes after eating.

Keep your head elevated when you are lying down.

Avoid drinks that stimulate the secretion of acid, such as beer, wine and soft drinks. The worst thing of all is beer!

Dispelling Some Acid Reflux Foods Myths:

Drink milk before bed: Many people are convinced that drinking milk before bed is a good solution for the problem of acid reflux. In fact, often the milk ends up causing reflux during sleep. The milk, which apparently seems to give relief, actually increases the secretion of stomach acid.

In trying to understand the situation at the origin, it must be said that the underlying problem is linked to “eating too much” for dinner. Look over the acid reflux foods to avoid list again!  Overeating before going to sleep causes increased production of stomach acid.

Coffee, citrus fruits and spicy foods are they a good or bad acid reflux foods?

Mixed feelings: Many argue that the coffee fruit (the most acidic) and spicy foods can aggravate acid reflux. Therefore, we should avoid them in our daily diet in order to reduce acid reflux.

A recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, in May 2006 wanted to refute these “assumptions”. Researchers at Stanford University have found that only two things can reduce the symptoms of acid reflux: Eat less (especially those acid reflux foods to avoid) and keep the head slightly elevated when you sleep.I Cured My Acid Relfux

Healthy Home Recipes To Combat Heartburn

Heartburn, also called acid indigestion, heartburn or regurgitation is caused by Gastroesophageal reflux in which the digestive juices (hydrochloric acid and an enzyme called pepsin) return to the lower esophagus where creating an sensation of burning and pressure below the breastbone (often mistaken for a heart attack).

This is because the lower esophageal sphincter (a small ring of muscle responsible for keeping these juices in the stomach acids) relaxes and opens usually due to consumption of certain foods that in many cases also cause burping.

If heartburn occurs frequently, the esophagus becomes inflamed with just swallowing  some irritating foods (citrus, tomatoes, peppers and coffee) triggering spasms of pain.

Healthy Recipes To Combat Heartburn

Healing juice # 1:

Pick six stems of fennel leaves and flowers. Separate the leaves and flowers from the stems and discard the latter. Wash the leaves and flowers in a wire strainer before extracting the juice. Use a vacuum and add a bit of carrot or celery juice for more flavor. Take three times a day.

Healthy Recipe # 1: Tropical Madness

Put in blender a ripe banana (peeled) with 1 or 2 cups pear juice. Run the blender at high speed for 15 to 20 seconds until you get a drink and very uniform consistency. Take once a day, preferably mid-morning.

Some Additional Recommendations

Some recommendations to prevent and combat heartburn

* Minimize the intake of fatty foods like fried foods, milk shakes, cheese, hamburgers or other foods rich in fat and instead increase the consumption of more protein and complex carbohydrates.

* Limit foods that can relax the sphincter and cause acid reflux as chocolate, peppermint, coffee, alcohol and raw onion. If you suspect citrus juices and spicy foods are best avoided. If you feel heartburn after consuming these irritants, it is advisable to drink plenty of water (or other liquid that is not acid) to remove the harmful substance of the esophagus.

* Lower your weight – losing 5 to 7 pounds will help improve acid reflux symptoms.

* Do not lie down within three hours after eating. When sitting or standing  gravity helps to prevent acid reflux – advantage is lost at bedtime. Sleeping with your head elevated also helps.

* Avoid lying down for a while after drinking alcohol. It’s something that often causes acid reflux events even in people without a history of heartburn.

* Eating too fast and too much can overload the stomach, causing excess bloating putting additional  pressure on the sphincter to facilitate its opening.

* Lying down, especially on the left side and that right is acting against gravity and pushes the food against the muscle making it open.

* Being overweight around the abdomen is another way of putting pressure on the sphincter weakening and promoting symptoms of acid reflux. If this is the case losing weight helps relieve heartburn attacks.I Cured My Acid Relfux

Food: Acid Or Alkaline?

Acid Reflux Diet
It is important to consume foods in our diet that produce at least 60% alkaline to maintain health.

Many alkaline foods are produced by nature but manufactured processed foods are mostly acid generators.
We need lots of fresh fruits and vegetables (which produce alkaline) to balance the needs of the proteins (which are acid-forming). And we need to avoid processed foods, sugars or simple carbohydrates not only because they are acid but also because they raise the blood sugar level too quickly (high glycemic index) can be toxic too.

Note that a acid or alkaline food forming tendency of the body has nothing to do with the pH of the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, however the end products they produce after digestion and assimilation are made – they are very alkaline so lemons are alkaline forming in the body. Also,  meat will prove alkaline before digestion but it leaves acidic waste in the body so like nearly all animal products, meat is classified as acid generating.

Knowing the pH of foods and beverages that influence common body pH is useful. Ideally, foods and beverages consumed must be 75% alkaline and 25% acidic. Again, not many of us reach a such perfection diet on a daily basis. The current technology based on BioAlkalizer purposes of determining the nature of partnerships outside the acidic overload the body can be included and balanced with security. You have to make wise decisions – be responsible and be informed about the health of your body.

Acid Forming Foods

One important thing to remember is the acid that comprise food are important foods. They provide vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats and fiber. A diet is not complete without them. However, if this acid that makes food is greater than 20% of the diet (and most Americans diet are made up at nearly 90% of the diet) then as we age, the body becomes less efficient. The cells of the body become more and more acidic.

What you should do is to add alkaline foods to your diet, such as those mentioned below and follow the advice to alkalize your body.

Acidic Foods:

Although not apparent at first glance, as synergists these foods produce acid in our body:

* Sugar.
* Café.
* Fish.
* Olives.
* Noodles.
* Eggs.
* Alcohol.
* Cow’s milk

Alkaline Foods:

The following products are considered alkalizing:

* Fresh Vegetables.
* Coco.
* Maple Syrup.
* Honey.
* Raisins.
* Derived from soybeans.
* Cabbage (especially juice)

To maintain balance between acids and alkalines, synergists recommend mixing:

* Apples and pumpkin seeds (pumpkin seeds).
* Beer and pumpkin seeds.
* Bread and garlic.
* Cheese and mustard.
* Chocolate and pears.

Synergists Also Recommend:

* Cow’s milk and nutmeg
* Wine and hazelnuts.
* Curry and almonds.
* Oranges and sunflower seeds.
* Strawberries and mango.

Alkaline Foods

Dr. Samuel Sack made an interesting contribution to the issue of acid-base balance, developing a technique of soaking in alkaline acidic foods such as white cabbage broth or water bicarbonate.
White cabbage broth (CR) Boil a cabbage leaf green or white, never red in one liter of water (CR)
Water Bicarbonate (AB) diluting half a teaspoon of baking soda in a quart of water.
Never use aluminum containers.

Dr. Sack’s system is based on the properties Alkalizing and neutralizing acid in the cabbage white checked oil and water for cooking. When boiling, this vegetable alkali releases that pass water and neutralization process immersed in food is done directly.

Soaking foods in the cabbage soup:

* Not affect the quality or taste
* Facilitates the assimilation and transformation in the body
* Positively influences the acid-base balance
* Is extremely useful for making the transition from a “normal” diet to a diet “alkalizing”

Infusions: Use CR in its construction instead of water.
Milk: Boil 15 ‘with a sheet of white cabbage.
Manteca: Soak sliced bread butter for 72 hours in CR or AB, changing the fluid every 24 hours.
Ricotta: Soak in CR or AB for an hour.
Hard cheeses: Soak slices of 4 cm in CR or AB for 6 hours.
Sweet potato: Soak slices of 4 cm in CR for 3 hours.
Quince: Boil 15 ‘CR.
Dried fruits and olives: Soak 6 hours in CR or AB.
Seeds: Soak peeled 6 hours in CR or AB.
Chocolate: Soak 1 to 6 hours depending on thickness.
Dried beans: Soak 6 hours in CR or AB, rinse and cook in plain water.
Vegetables: In case of chard or spinach, cooked in CR or in water with a cabbage leaf, or soak 3 hours in AB and cook in plain water.
Or sweet potatoes: Bake in CR or water with a cabbage leaf. For frying, soak one hour in CR or AB. For the oven, soak 3 hours in CR or AB.
Cereals and pasta: Cook in CR.
Eggs: shell Soak one hour in CR or AB.
Refined Oils: Place a teaspoon of baking soda in the bottle, shake well and leave to rest after 24 hours. The bicarbonate neutralizes traces of acids and solvents used in industrial forming in the bottom sediment in the bottle (the reaction of bicarbonate on acid) should not be used

Dr. Sack suggested using cabbage water or add a leaf of cabbage in the preparation of sauces, cooking pasta, eggs, legumes and vegetables (especially kale, spinach and beets) as well as soaking beans, dried fruit and meats. It also recommended to add just a slip of raw cabbage to salads (in excess gases produced), and discouraging consumption of boiled cabbage.

The Diet In Acid-Base Balance

Dr. Ragnar Berg a Swedish doctor, a pioneer in research on alkalizing food, he suggested that 85% of the diet should be composed of elements rich in bases of which a proportion should be in a raw state and only 15% should be reserved for acidifying foods. Berg claimed that the best therapy was the fresh juice of fruits and vegetables.

* Start to improve the quality of nutrition is to begin to improve the quality of life. Be aware of what and how we eat.
* Pay attention to acid-base balance in the body can eliminate a lot of symptoms, many of which are sometimes considered normal habit.
* Knowledge of acidifying and alkalizing foods, to begin to change daily intake. The change must be gradual, first two parts of alkalizing and acidifying by each party, until the balance 4 to 1, until the habit of consuming foods in acid-alkaline balance.
* Adjust the power to the organic reality, social, labor and time of year
* Too much food causes acidification, it is necessary to nourish the body sparingly to satisfy basic needs.
* Eat fruits (in season and ripe) and vegetables (raw, steamed or consumed in the cooking water). Preferably eat fruits and vegetables growing natural and organic products.
* Incorporate less acidifying grains (brown rice Yamani, buckwheat, maize) and alkalizing (millet or barley) and legumes (beans, lentils, peas, chickpeas, soybeans, peas) previously soaked with a piece of kombu seaweed or a leaf of cabbage white laurel.
* Prefer dried fruit, almonds, dates, raisins and nuts.
* Sweeten with honey, rice or barley, honey
* Lemon juice is a product used to alkalize the body. You can add vegetable broth to onion and celery, resulting in a combined detoxifying and alkalizing that is taken before lunch and dinner.
* Fasting drinking fruit juice (unique contribution bases or alkali), facilitates the process of purification of waste acid and allowed to feel sense of relief in the body.

Macrobiotics And Balance Yin-Yang

Macrobiotics considers the element YANG YIN alkaline and acid to the element to stay healthy balance must be maintained yin-yang, or acid-base.
Some alkalizing foods in the macrobiotic diet are: miso (fermented soybean paste), sesame seeds, burdock root, seaweed, beans aduki (protects kidney function), Bancha tea, lotus root, and umeboshi plums.
Some foods in order of the macrobiotic approach into account the declining value of the element Yang (more alkaline to least alkaline).

* Cereal: buckwheat, millet, rye, wheat, rice Yamani, barley, corn.
* Fruits: apple, strawberry, chestnut, cherry, olive, peach, hazelnut, peanut, almond, pear, melon, dates, figs, banana, citrus, pineapple.
* Vegetables: dandelion, nettle, carrot, cauliflower, squash, parsley, onion, radish, chicory, lettuce, cabbage, beets, lentils, peas, garlic, mushroom, cucumber, spinach, asparagus, tomatoes, peas
* Dairy: goat cheese, old cheddar, milk, butter, cream, yogurt.
* Oils: sesame, corn, sunflower, olive, soybean.
* Beverages: tea, ginseng, Ban-cha, fruit juice.I Cured My Acid Relfux

Diet And Gastroesophageal Reflux

Gastroesophageal reflux is a very common disorder characterized by symptoms such as heartburn, acidity and regurgitation.  Caused basically by an involuntary rise of gastric contents into the esophagus – this can be particularly intense.

Especially in milder forms this condition is often treated with little regard as there is a widespread use of self-medication.

Both for those who decide to deal with heartburn using their own resources or for those who turn to a doctor, the care of gastroesophageal reflux can not be separated from the adoption of a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Naturally Stop Acid Reflux

The Role of Diet and Lifestyle

There is a simple way of eating that is important to both prevent and treat gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Eating Slowly…

The first stage of digestion occurs in the mouth and this is true not only because the saliva contains a chemical with digestive properties but also because the grinding of food during chewing ease gastric activity.. Hastily eating a sandwich and swallowing whole chunks promotes reflux because whole chunks of food has to stay  in the stomach longer to break down.

For this reason it is essential that you chew very slowly and that your acid reflux diet includes eating four or five small meals rather than one or two big daily binges.

WHICH FOODS?

One of the first thoughts to arise in the mind of a person who complains of a burning stomach is the type of food eaten during the last meal. There are two distinct types of foods that if present in the diet may promote gastroesophageal reflux:

Food that slows the emptying of the stomach by increasing the chance of encountering a rise of acid juices. As we have seen to prevent acid reflux it is important that the stomach empties quickly. Consequently in the presence of acid reflux disease, the diet must be low in all those foods that increase the time that the food stays in the stomach (such as fatty foods like cheese seasoned, chocolate , sausages and fried foods ).

The fizzy drinks and chewing gum directly or indirectly increase the amount of air in the gastric pouch.. The presence of these gases increases the pressure inside the stomach facilitating the ascent of gastric contents.

Foods that are irritant (white wine, vinegar, alcohol, liquor, juice, tomato or citrus). These foods and drinks  should be added to the  “do not eat or drink” list along with tea, coffee, cocoa and any other foods or drinks that contain or promote acid production in the stomachI Cured My Acid Relfux

Knowing What Foods To Avoid To Prevent Acid Reflux

Acid Reflux Disease Home Remedy

For those who suffer from acid reflux there are some foods and beverages that should be avoided even if you are taking drugs to stop acid reflux symptoms. Many of the foods to avoid acid reflux include dairy products, breads and spicy or fried foods.

While many food products will help a person reduce the amount of acid in the stomach avoiding those that add to the problem must be a priority.

No matter how good fried fatty meat can taste, a person subject to acid reflux would be better off to stay away from them as excess fat and proteins can act as a residual acid-producing pumps in the stomach and cause the pumping to increase at maximum speed.

If you have a loose lower esophageal sphincter it will allow some of the stomach contents to escape into the esophagus causing much pain and discomfort.

The acid produced by the stomach is hydrochloric acid, similar to the acid used in car batteries and if it can eat through clothing and the outer skin it will have little trouble burning the lining of the esophagus.

The types of foods to avoid acid reflux are those that increase acid production giving it more of a chance of flowing back (reflux) out of the stomach.

Control Acid Reflux Without Drugs

For many, it is possible to control acid reflux symptoms without medication ( prescription or nonprescription drugs). Two adjustments of basic lifestyle you can do to help alleviate the effects of acid reflux – learn to avoid foods known to trigger an acid attack on just about anyone and sleep with the head slightly raised to allow gravity to keep food in the stomach.

Acid Reflux Treatment

Fatty meats and starchy foods like macaroni and cheese and spaghetti with tomato sauce is known to make more problems for those who suffer from acid reflux. However, keeping a journal is a good step to determine what foods you need to avoid that cause acid reflux.

Write down everything you eat and when, and track the hours that acid reflux occurs and its intensity can help reduce the number of individual acidic foods to prevent backflow. Once you know which foods to avoid and not overeating should help facilitate the frequency and intensity of the symptoms of acid reflux.

Having to deal with acid reflux is not fun, but with changes to your diet and using some of these natural acid reflux remedies listed on this website you should be able to live a life free of acid reflux.I Cured My Acid Relfux
